Fiji beat Canada 29-16 in Cardiff
16-Sep-2007
Canada put the pressure on Fiji in the final quarter but a last minute try secured the match for the Fijians and gave them a Pool B bonus point.
Two first half tries by Fiji put the Pacific Islanders up 15-6 at half-time and a converted try by Vilimoni Delasau in the second minute after the break looked to set Fiji up for a comfortable win. But the Canucks made a concerted effort to get back into the game and were eventually rewarded with 7 points in the 60th minute as Ryan Smith touched down.
Canada kept the pressure on and made several attempts at gaining another try. They closed the gap to just 6 points with a penalty a few minutes before fulltime and with their strong momentum it looked like they might take the match, but Fiji held off their attacks and Kameli Ratuvou scored in the final minute to give Fiji their 4th try - the fulltime score at 29-16.
