RWC debutants Portugal lose 56-10 to Scotland
9-Sep-2007
Scotland notched up 8 tries against Portugal but Os Lobos fought hard - managing to score 1 try in their first ever RWC match.
Scotland generally controlled the game and put alot of pressure on Portugal early on. Rory Lamont scored the first try after 13 minutes and added another one a couple of minutes later. Scott Lawson added to Scotland's score with another try 9 minutes later but Portugal soon struck back, to the cheers of the crowd. Os Lobos spent some time attacking in Scotish territory and finally got a breakthrough as Pedro Carvalho scored Portugals first Rugby World Cup try after a penalty tap.
With renewed confidence Os Lobos continued the match full of enthusiasm but it was Scotland who continued adding to the scoreboard with another four tries before full time.
All up, a good first effort for Portugal and Scotland will be fairly pleased with their secure win and pool C bonus point. Related articles:
