Ireland beat Namibia 32-17

9-Sep-2007

Ireland beat Namibia in their RWC Pool D match, but the Namibians were no pushover - gaining ground in the second half after being down 20-3 at half time.

Ireland scored their first points in under 5 minutes with a try by Brian O'Driscoll after a good run by Girvan Dempsey. The men in green proceeded to dominate the first half, adding another another two tries to their score before half time.

The second half initially saw Ireland increase their lead further with a penalty try being awarded in the 8th minute, but Namibia had not given up all hope and came back with a strong attack. The Welwitschias finally got the breakthrough they were after as Ryan Witbooi broke through and passed on to Nieuwenhuis who dived over the line to score in the 60th minute. The match really heated up as Namibia scored another try a couple of minutes later to put the team within 10 points of the Irish. But it was Ireland who finished the scoring with a try in the last 5 minutes - adding a bonus point to their pool D score.
