South Africa destroy England 36-0

14-Sep-2007

Rugby World Cup defending champions England failed to score a single point in the RWC 2007 Pool A clash against South Africa at the Stade de France on Friday, September 14.

The Springboks' first try came after just six minutes as Juan Smith crossed the line almost uncontested. They increased the score to 10-0 a few minutes later and ended the first half up 20-0. South Africa's tactic of kicking high into English territory paid off as England spent much of the time back in their own half, where they rarely looked dangerous enough to challenge the boks' dominance.

In the second half South Africa only added to their score, conceding not a single penalty to end the match at 36-0.

England will now have to work hard to secure their place in a RWC 2007 quarterfinal. Their next match is against Samoa on September 22, where they can expect a physical game with the Pacific Islanders also intent on reaching the next round of RWC 2007.
