Pumas through to their first-ever RWC Quarterfinal

Argentina managed to hold off a final-quarter attempt by Scotland to win their quarterfinal match 19-13, qualifying them for a semifinal appearance with the Springboks in Marseille next Sunday.

The scoring started a little slowly, with Scotland picking up at penalty after 16 minutes and Argentina adding six points over the next quarter hour. The South Americans' breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when number 8 Gonzalo Longo Elía charged down a kick and retrieved the ball to score a converted try.

It was 13-6 to the Pumas at half time and they looking fairly confident after increasing their lead to 19-6 early in the second half. But Scotland's Chris Cusiter scored a try in the 63rd minute restoring the Scots' confidence and putting them right back into the game. With renewed energy Scotland pushed on in the final minutes aiming to topple the Pumas but time ran out and Argentina held on for a well-deserved 19-13 victory, thus securing their first ever Rugby World Cup semifinal appearance, against South Africa on September 14 (Sep.15 NZ time.)
